The Masters of Arts in Community Music is a one year, full-time, postgraduate programme. The programme will offer a comprehensive grounding in the skills and knowledge needed to function as a successful community musician in a range of contexts. It is aimed at musicians who already have a level of self-expressive skill and who wish to enhance their talents while developing the abilities they will need to facilitate the expressive work of others.
This MA programme will enable students to attain practical perspectives and ‘hands-on’ experiences in the field of Community Music in conjunction with developing the technical knowledge, musical expertise and the interpersonal skills required to work effectively with a wide range of clients in diverse settings. All aspects of this MA will be developed in relation to ‘practicum’ assignments, research and reflection designed to develop students’ understandings of the diversity, possibilities and practicalities of Community Music. This MA programme is unique in that it is designed to offer students exposure and access to excellent examples of professional practice and frames of reference in relation to a rigorous academic programme.
Independent Study Modules also facilitate access to other postgraduate programmes and performance / research interests at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, such as Music Therapy, Festive Arts and Music Education.
