Aims and Objectives

Aims

The aim of the programme is to provide a thorough grounding in Community Music theory and practice with opportunities to pursue related individual interests in ethnomusicology, music education, music therapy and other offerings of the proposed College of Performing Arts.

Objectives:

  • To equip postgraduates with professional qualification in Community Music
  • To develop a research foundation for the interdisciplinary study of music, performance, theology and anthropology
  • To give practical training in musical performance of diverse genres
  • To develop facilities and skills in practical management, financial planning, group dynamics, and all other skills necessary for this work
  • To consider Irish community music within a larger geographical framework
  • To further the professionalization of Community Music
  • To promote access to excellent participatory music making
