A number of our graduates and tutors direct and sing with the following ensembles.
CANTORAL is an all female chant ensemble, specialising in Western plainchant and early polyphony, with a particular interest in medieval Irish repertoire. Most of the members of Cantoral are graduates of the MA in Ritual Chant and Song, and have a strong scholarly grounding in reading manuscript sources and are therefore able to prepare their own musical editions from original sources. Their first recording, ‘Let The Joyous Irish Sing Aloud! Laetabundus Decantet Hybernicorum Cetus‘ was launched in October 2014 and is a collection of chant and medieval song inspired by Irish medieval spirituality, drawing on manuscript sources from and related to Ireland.
HIBERNIA is a cross-disciplinary ensemble directed by Óscar Mascareñas that focuses on the performance of early music repertoires within the realm of contemporary practice. Members of the ensemble have included graduates of the BA Voice and Dance (BAVAD), the MA Ritual Chant and Song as well as doctoral students at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in the University of Limerick.
SIONNA (Shunna) is an ensemble made up of graduates from both undergraduate programmes at the Irish World Academy as well as the MA Ritual Chant & Song. The members of Sionna combine their unique training with a shared love of captivating vocal repertoire, creating concert programmes bound together through space and time by human themes. Sionna perform regularly throughout Ireland and have been privileged to share the stage with some of the best names in Irish music today.
