MA Classical String Performance (Keyboard)
Introduction

The Keyboard Stream of the MA Classical String Performance programme is a two-year full-time degree programme offering advanced tuition in piano and harpsichord. Working alongside the string students and their unique interaction with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, keyboardists engage in solo and collaborative repertoire spanning the Renaissance through Contemporary periods of music. In a combined academic and performance environment, students engage in classes and in creative projects with students and faculty, receiving tuition from members of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance and the Irish Chamber Orchestra. Masterclasses and workshops by internationally acclaimed visiting artists and scholars are also a feature of the programme, as are opportunities to interact with the global gathering of musicians, dancers, and scholars operating across nineteen degree programmes at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.

Testimonials

“When I did the MA Classical String Performance, I focused on a classical piano and performance. I studied piano repertoire as well as chamber music. I was involved in many collaborative projects including live performances with dancers, filming and recording sessions and it was an amazing experience. The facilities and atmosphere at the Academy make it easy to embody your ideas in a creative practice. Currently I am doing a PhD at the Royal Holloway, University of London and am a Lecturer in Digital Music Production, School of Arts & Media, Southampton SOLENT University. Studying at the inspiring Irish World Academy was a brilliant platform for my doctoral research.”

Elena Alekseeva, MA Classical String Performance
2012–2014

“I had a wonderful time during my two years at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance when I was a Classical piano student on the  MA Classical Strings Performance programme. During that period I focused on both piano solo and chamber performance, along with courses in Performance Practice, which covered many topics, including Music History and Professional Skills for stage performance. I am grateful for the numerous performance opportunities I had there. The facilities and friendly atmosphere gave me a creative learning space and the freedom to develop my own ideas of musical expression. My valuable experience at the Irish World Academy provided me with a wonderful skill set for my professional career back China where I am a piano teacher”

Yushan Ye, MA Classical String Performance

“This course gently guided me in the direction of becoming not only a true musician, but a true artist. The opportunities to play with the Irish chamber orchestra, coaching from the top professionals and providing us with a broader artistic knowledge has helped me develop as a player and person and has given me the confidence to grow.”

Jane Hackett, MA Classical String Performance
