Rebeca Mateos Morante is a Danza Española and Flamenco dancer, currently studying for her PhD at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in collaboration with the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. A philosophy graduate with a first class honours Masters in Psychoanalysis and Cultural Studies, she forms part of the last generation of professional dancers to have trained at the renowned Centro Coreográfico Mariemma in Madrid. She toured extensively both with the critically acclaimed Compañía Elvira Andrés led by the ex-director of the National Ballet of Spain, and as Flamenco soloist with the international dance phenomenon Riverdance. She has worked with many more prestigious choreographers, having performed one of the last productions of the famous Bodas de Sangre under the direction of its celebrated choreographer, the late Antonio Gades. In addition to lecturing in both theoretical and performance based modules at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, Rebeca’s own academic research output includes conference presentations, journal publications, and choreographies that explore themes associated with her interdisciplinary doctoral thesis titled “Talking Body, Dancing Body: A Psychoanalytical Study of the Dancer in the Mirror”.
