BA Irish Music and Dance

Introduction

The BA in Irish Music and Dance is an exciting and rewarding four-year degree programme which places performance at its heart – the performance of music, singing and dancing, alongside the performance of research and writing.

The course team is a dynamic blend of faculty members (with a wide range of specialisations in music/singing/dancing and cultural historical studies), in-house and visiting performers and tutors, guest lecturers, and educators.

In this programme we value engaged, thoughtful, and creative performers. We encourage and facilitate you in discovering or further honing your own distinctive voice.  You will engage with the wider cultural, social and historical context of various Irish traditions through a number of modules in Irish cultural studies, including classes in the Irish language. You will also have opportunities to study music and dance traditions from other cultures and will learn how to reflect upon, write about, and creatively represent your experiences with other performers and with research materials.
