Postgraduate Certificate in Irish Music Studies
Overview

The Postgraduate Certificate in Irish Music Studies is an innovative new course offering from the Irish World Academy.  This is a one (Autumn) semester programme worth 30 postgraduate ECTS credits and can be engaged in person at the Irish World Academy, entirely online (with both synchronous and asynchronous contact) or in a blended manner where students can mix online and face-to-face engagement.

The programme draws upon considerable expertise from across the Academy’s wide range of disciplinary approaches, exploring and expanding ideas and sounds of what constitutes ‘Irish music’, from historical and contemporary perspectives. The Irish World Academy of Music and Dance has become a leading centre for the study of Irish traditional music in particular, and while this genre informs some of the content of this programme, it is one of a number of Irish musics that may be pursued as part of the programme. You are also encouraged to engage with the discourse through your own performance/compositional practice, if desired and where appropriate.

After completion, graduates can return in the January of later academic years to add on credits to complete the Diploma in Irish Music Studies or the MA Irish Music Studies.
