Lunchtime Performance- ‘Le Lai de Bisclavret/The Lai of the Werewolf’ Rosemary Heredos and Michelle O’Connor
April 5, 2018 at 1:15 pm - 2:00 pm
‘One used to hear, in times gone by
–it often happened, actually–
men became werewolves, many men,
and in the forest made their den.’*
Presenting a recreation of the lost music for the ancient tale of Bisclavret, written in rhyme by the mysterious Marie de France (c.1180) and sung for the entertainment of the royal court of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II. Steeped in Arthurian legend of shapeshifting knights who are cursed to turn in to werewolves, this is a timelessly entertaining tale of adventure, treachery, loyalty, and enchantment.
*English translation by Dorothy Gilbert. Original Anglo-Norman text by Marie de France c.1180.
