Lunchtime Performance- Traditional Hungarian string band music from Transylvania Péter Árendás and students of the Liszt Academy of Music

Péter Árendás will perform string band repertoire from central Transylvania (mezőség) with advanced students from the Folk Music Department of the Liszt Academy of Music, playing his primary instrument the 3-string folk-viola, which provides harmonic accompaniment to the violin, supported by a contra-bass.

Péter Árendás is Senior Lecturer at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, where he leads the program in folk string chamber music. In 1986 he founded the Tükrös Folk Music Ensemble, which has published several solo albums since its establishment. In addition to numerous performances through Hungary and Europe, the Tükrös folk band also completed three successful tours in Australia and two in the USA. Their regular summer program is the Tükrös Folk Music and Dance Camp held annually. Their album “Our Mezőség” won the Fonogram Award for best Authentic Hungarian Folk Music in 2010.
