Seamus Fogarty grew up in Co Mayo in the west of Ireland and spent his early years writing songs about mountains that steal t-shirts, women who look like dinosaurs and various other unfortunate incidents. Now based in London, he released his debut album God Damn You Mountain on revered Scottish indie label Fence Records in 2012. Hailed by the Irish Times as ‘one of the best Irish albums of recent years’, it was critically acclaimed on its release, leading to a slot on the main stage of The Green Man festival in Wales, extensive UK tours with the likes of James Yorkston, Pictish Trail and Malcolm Middleton (Arab Strap), and a massive solo tour around Europe. Live appearances on the European festival circuit have provided an international platform for this unique performer. A special event last year, Imagining Ireland: 21st Century Song at Dublin’s NCH had him sharing the stage with Paul Noonan, Lisa Hannigan, Saint Sister and others. His 2017 release The Curious Hand is inspired both by Fogarty’s adopted home of London and his homeland of County Mayo. His method of lifting sounds from his environment and tucking them into the folds of his songs like keepsakes renders himself at once artist and archivist.
