Special Event – Channelling

May 18, 2022

Presenters: Roxy Regine Theobald

Roxy Regine Theobald is a PhD researcher in Arts Practice at the Irish World Academy, University of Limerick, where she also teaches contemporary dance on the BA and MA dance programmes. Roxy explores the concept of ‘inner lines’ through dance performance to inquire into her identity as a diasporic woman in Ireland.

‘Channelling’, which is her second PhD performance, offers a critical grounding in, place, praxis, ecology and inner landscape. Roxy addresses an unfolding critical praxis in relation to Royce’s idea of an embodied, sensual experience of landscape: ‘we only really know landscapes by being embodied in them, walking them, experiencing them through all senses, rather than seeing representations of them, distanced from our lived sensory being’ (Royce, 2019: 65).

In ‘Channelling’, Roxy is joined by MA Contemporary Dance students for a site-specific exploration of movement, connection and memory on the beach, at Kilkee, County Clare.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
