Special Events – Album Launch: The Maghera Pony by Matthew Noone 

This event celebrates the release of the 2nd solo album by self-confessed ‘mongrel’ musician, composer and scholar Matthew Noone.  Matthew’s primary instrument is the multi-stringed North Indian lute called the sarode. He performs in a range of musics ranging from Indian classical, Irish traditional, free improvisation and electroacoustics.  This album (The Maghera Pony) was developed during an artist-in-residence at the Burren College of Art which explored intersections between visual art, landscape, corporeality, electronics and music. The album was recorded partly in the Burren and also in the Irish World Academy. It features original compositions for a custom made electroacoustic sarode and incorporates voice, loops, drones and other electronics using coding software called CHUCK.  This album represents the first recorded output of Matthew’s current Irish Research Council postdoctoral fellowship exploring new composition for the sarode.
