Lunchtime Performance- The Claddagh Rogues

March 1, 2018 at 1:15 pm - 2:00 pm

James O’Flynn and his folk band The Claddagh Rogues have battled their fair share of demons to consistently produce passionate music rooted in the troubles of life. The Claddagh Rogues will perform songs from their new album ‘For the Record’, which explores experiences of homelessness, addiction, mental health difficulties and recovery. ‘For Record’ is dedicated to founding member Mags Kelly recently passed away. The performance will include spoken word interludes from James, lead singer and songwriter, his recovery journey and the inspiration behind the music.

James O’Flynn and Mags Kelly started The Rogues during an artist-in-resident project at the Cork Community in 2007. The project was led by clinical and musician Kevin O’Shanahan who specialises in health and the arts for Cork’s mental health services.  spent most of his early life in prison, under psychiatric and homeless on the streets of Cork. A passion for music performance has remained a constant in his life. Kevin plays drums with the band, a unique partnership between a mental health professional and a former mental health service.
