Tower Seminar Series Ukrainian Dance Recontextualizations
September 12, 2018 at 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Ukrainian Dance Recontextualizations
Presenter: Professor Andriy Nahachewsky
Chair: Dr Catherine Foley
In this seminar Professor Nahachewsky will present an introduction to Ukrainian dance, with a focus on those dance contexts that make reference to peasant dance in that part of the world, but are not themselves done by Ukrainian peasants. He will offer a number of conceptual tools that may be useful for understanding the processes involved as the dance activity and the participants adjust to each setting. Professor Nahachewsky has published widely on this topic and is author of Ukrainian Dance: A Cross-Cultural Approach (2012).
